“All Options on the Table” US Warns Iranian Government
Latest World News, UNITED NATIONS — The United States made its sternest threat against the Iranian government during a high-stakes confrontation at the United Nations. On Thursday, January 15, 2026, there was an emergency meeting of the Security Council at which U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz said that the United States stands squarely behind the people of Iran and that he could not rule out anything to put a stop to the bloody crackdown on countrywide demonstrations.

Washington ordered the emergency session, which pointed to a further deepening of the rift between the two states after weeks of growing civil disturbances in Iran. Despite the fact that the White House had already in the previous day, switched its rhetoric to de-escalation, the statements of the American envoy at the United Nations were still directed at the issue of accountability and the possibility of military intervention.
A Stark Warning to Tehran
In his speech to the council, Ambassador Waltz described the reaction of the Iranian government to protests as a slaughter. He observed that human-rights organisations and activists put the number at over 2,600 people since the start of demonstrations at the end of last month in the face of a waning economy and the breakdown of the Iranian rial.
Waltz addressed the chamber, saying that President Trump is not a talker, as we know at the United Nations. He has clarified that nothing is being ruled out to stop the killing. The leadership of the Iranian regime should be in a better position to understand that.
Waltz refuted the allegations by Tehran that the unrest is a foreign conspiracy, stating that the Iranian leadership is weaker than ever before and that they are afraid of their own people.
Harrowing Testimony from Dissidents
The US invited high-profile Iranian dissidents to directly brief the Security Council in a rare move. Masih Alinejad and Ahmad Batebi gave chilling reports about being the targets of the Islamic Republic.
The world news today that shocked the house, Alinejad turned to the Iranian representative and spoke to him directly. You have attempted to murder me thrice, once when they attempted to assassinate my home in Brooklyn, she said. I have seen with my own eyes my prospective killer.
Batebi discussed being physically tortured in Iranian prisons, to which the council offered to demonstrate the scars on his body. The two activists called on the international community to go beyond diplomatic utterances and act in order to safeguard the lives of the people on the streets.
Concerns of Global Instability
As the U.S. continued with its all options policy, other world leaders and UN officials were greatly concerned with the chances of the military strikes. The message was by UN Assistant Secretary-General Martha Pobee, who called on Secretary-General António Guterres to exercise maximum restraint.
The UN threatened that any military action would spark a further regional deterioration and provide fuel to an already volatile situation. According to diplomatic sources, the regional powers such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar have been privately lobbying the White House against striking, as they believe it will affect the world, as well as the stability of the Middle East.
Iran’s Defiant Response
The deputy UN ambassador of Iran, Gholamhossein Darzi, rejected the accusations, saying that the U.S. was directly involved in the unrest leading to violence. He alleged that Washington, through the pretexts of humanitarianism, was setting the stage for political destabilisation.
Whenever there is any aggression, whether it be direct or indirect, it will respond decisively, proportionately, and legally, Darzi informed the council. This is not a menace; it is the law.
At the end of the meeting, the situation was still in a deadlock. Although the White House acknowledged that Iran had recently suspended 800 planned executions, which, however, halted U.S. attacks in the short run, it is still possible to conclude that the internet blackout and high security level in Tehran indicate that the crisis is not something that has been resolved. Given its position, currently the world is on alert as Washington considers its next action.
