Priyanka Chopra’s Mother Once Slapped a Cab Driver

The case occurred when Ms. Chopra was yet to gain a foothold in her career in India. She remembered that she and her mother had been on their way through the capital city late at night. A Routine Ride Turns Tense

The driver had diverted the vehicle off main roads to a dark and isolated location instead of staying on a well-lit nature road. Ms. Chopra said that the moment they were in a new and isolated place, the atmosphere in the car changed.

She reported that her mother could feel that something had gone wrong. The answers that the driver gave seemed to be evasive when they asked him about the detour. And in an environment in which incidents of crime involving transit are, regrettably, the order of the day, there was a complete shift in gears that made Dr. Chopra instinctively fight or flee.

The situation became worse, but instead of it getting worse, Dr. Chopra took the car away to the back seat. She remembered that her mother leaned forward and grabbed the driver by the throat and asked him to pull up the car.

Ms. Chopra also disclosed that her mother hit the driver, thus indicating how serious the situation was and forcing the driver to drop whatever ill motives that he might have had. What Ms. Chopra described on the podcast is the sheer unadulterated intensity of the moment when her mom held his throat. She confessed that at the time the confrontation began, it shocked her physically, but it was a maneuver made out of desperate emotion to defend her daughter.
