Galgotias University Removed from India AI Summit After Chinese Robot Dog Controversy
Latest News Today: After the claims that it had passed off rebranded Chinese technology as its own innovation, the university was ordered to empty its stall at the Bharat Mandapam.

India AI Impact Summit, which was planned as a high-profile demonstration of the local technological development, was abruptly interrupted on Wednesday. Galgotias University was instructed to clear the exhibition hall in the Bharat Mandapam immediately after a scandal over the origin of the products exhibited. This decision was allegedly issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and came about following a wave of complaints and following a lot of political opposition.
The Robot Dog Fiasco
The main argument of dispute was a robodog that was exhibited in the stall of the university. Despite the representation of the exhibit as an indigenous product of research and development, technology enthusiasts and visitors could immediately observe glaring similarities in the productions to robot models produced by one of the Chinese companies.
According to the latest news update, the hardware was an off-the-shelf Unitree Go2 robot, a widespread quadruped manufactured by a company with its headquarters in Hangzhou. According to the critics, the university had rebranded the Chinese product, only to add no value to its technological advancement. This finding caused instant anger on social media, with numerous people questioning the vetting exercise of people who attended a national summit on Atmanirbhar technology (self-reliant).
Political Backlash and “PR Spectacle”
The incident soon went beyond the technical community and fell into the political scene. The organization of the event was criticized by the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had paid a visit to the summit earlier that day. He termed the summit an uncoordinated PR show, which was created to ensure an illusion of progress.
Gandhi commented disapprovingly that Chinese products are being displayed as Indian innovations in a government-supported summit. He also believed that the event was more about optics than actually being scientific, meaning that the debacle at the Galgotias stall was not an isolated failure in the system, but a failure to promote real Indian startups and researchers on a larger scale.
Government Intervention
Since pictures and videos of the robot dog circulated on the Internet, government officials started the damage-control operation. The people in the Ministry affirmed that the university had been ordered to tear down its stall and vacate the Expo area by Wednesday afternoon.
The source of integrity of the India AI Summit is paramount, according to a ministry source. Exhibitors will present original work or clearly reveal the nature of any collaborations. Offering imported hardware as a nationally produced innovation is against the fundamental ideas of the summit.
The abrupt denuding of the stall created an empty, conspicuous space in the exhibition hall. Security guards surrounded the premises, and university officials started clearing up their equipment. No official, detailed announcement was made by the university administration or the organizers stating the particulars of the eviction, but according to eyewitnesses, the act was called rapid and uncompromising.
Implications for the Summit
The scandal has put into perspective an event that was supposed to celebrate the increasing presence of India in the Artificial Intelligence industry. When other booths featured genuine innovations in the use of Sanskrit-based LLMs, agricultural AI, and healthcare robotics, the robodog incident was the most commonly discussed event of the day.
Experts in the industry believe that this accident will result in stricter measures at the next technology expos in terms of screening. The call to know more about hardware sourcing has become more demanding as experts insist that rebranding is not the equivalent of true innovation.
In the case of Galgotias University, the negative impact is significant. The fact that the institution has, in recent times, been active in marketing its research potential now has a huge reputational blow with its overt removal as a prestigious national platform. As the summit enters its last days, the debate is on whether the organizers will be able to rewrite the story on the true Indian technological achievements.
