Tripura Teen Rescued After Months of Brutal Torture.
Latest News Today, GURUGRAM: A love affair that started through a dating app led to a close escape from death of a nineteen-year-old inhabitant of Tripura. The Gurugram police had just recently found the young woman in an apartment in Sector 18, where she was held hostage and subjected to extreme physical abuse by her cohabitant. Nitish, a 25-year-old man, was arrested as a result of a joint effort of both Tripura and Haryana police.

Since the victim had moved to the National Capital Region to seek better opportunities, she met Nitish at a dating site in the previous year. After another brief period of knowing each other, the couple decided to live together in July 2024. According to the investigators, the relationship in the first few weeks of the relationship was seemingly conventional, but very soon things went wrong, as Nitish began to exhibit more and more controlling and violent behavior.
Months of Captivity and Abuse
The police investigation has provided the latest news today about a gruesome experience of systematic torture. The victim reported to the police that Nitish took away her phone and achieved movement limitation soon after they started living together. She was allegedly locked up in the house and not allowed to interact with her family members for long periods of time.
Corporal punishment in its extreme forms was common. According to the First Information Report, the accused used different household items to cause pain. In what was a very outrageous allegation, the victim argued that Nitish would pour sanitizer on her sensitive areas and burn them. He also made use of lit cigarettes to burn her body and beat her up with a cleaning sponge and a belt. Medical tests carried out after her rescue showed that she had many burn lesions and blunt force wounds all over her body.
There was no real indication about the situation to the neighbours, who were rarely allowed to go out of the premises by the victim. Communication with her mother was usually monitored and restricted when she had permission to contact her mother, which was only for a small period of time.
The Chilling Final Call
The turning point came as the victim managed to get some moments of privacy in order to make a desperate call to her mother in Tripura. In the brief dialogue, the young woman pleaded for help as she said,
“Mom, he will kill me today. I do not have time.”
The mother was flustered by the call and immediately went to the police in Tripura. Tripura officials responded to this sense of urgency and informed the Gurgaon police, and provided the suspected site of the apartment. On this piece of intelligence, a DLF Phase 3 police station team undertook a raid in the premises where the victim was found in a state of trauma and physical incapacitation.
Legal Action and Medical Recovery
The victim was hospitalized and taken to a nearby hospital. Doctors found out that she was malnourished and in a terrible state of mental health, in addition to the physical harm she had sustained. She has been taken to a specialised facility for treatment.
A case has been filed by Gurugram police in accordance with a variety of provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, i.e., Section 311 (robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), Section 115 (voluntary infliction of hurt), and Section 118 (voluntary infliction of hurt by using dangerous weapons or instruments). Nitish was taken to the court, and he is still under custody.
The event has revived the fears related to the safety of young females in cities and the dangers of online dating services. The government has urged people to be on high alert and report any signs of domestic unrest in their societies. To the nineteen-year-old victim, the road to recovery is going to be long; however, her savings will mark the end of the eight-month ordeal, which could have claimed her life.
